Sangrur MP Meet Hayer set to become new Punjab Cricket Association secretary

Chandigarh: Sangrur Member of Parliament Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer is set to become the new secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). The 36-year-old leader was the only candidate to file nomination for the post, as no other nomination was submitted before the deadline expired on Thursday.

His nomination was proposed by the Gurdaspur Cricket Association, and the formal announcement regarding his appointment will be made on March 21.

The secretary’s post had fallen vacant on July 25, 2025, after Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh resigned from the position, citing other responsibilities.

With Meet Hayer set to take charge as secretary, leaders associated with the Aam Aadmi Party will hold all key positions in the Punjab Cricket Association. The current PCA president Amarjit Singh previously served as the secretary and spokesperson of the party’s Punjab unit.

Similarly, PCA vice-president Deepak Bali is the state general secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party. Joint secretary Sidhant Sharma is serving as Punjab government’s counsel in the Supreme Court, while treasurer Sunil Gupta is the deputy chairman of the Punjab State Planning Board.

Meet Hayer also has prior experience in sports administration, having earlier served as Punjab’s sports minister in the state government.
