Chandigarh: A man identified as Sukharaj was critically injured after being shot during a scuffle and later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
According to officials, two bullets were fired during the altercation, both of which struck Sukharaj, leaving him seriously wounded. He was rushed for medical treatment but could not be saved.
Police recovered a .30-bore pistol from the spot and have launched raids to trace the attackers, who fled the scene after the incident.
Investigators said Sukharaj had a criminal background and was previously involved in several criminal cases. He was also wanted in connection with the murder of another village sarpanch in Tarn Taran, officials added.
