Senior IAS officer accuses Haryana DGP, SP of harassment after IPS husband’s suicide

CHANDIGARH: In a shocking development following the suicide of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, his wife IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar has lodged a formal complaint with the Chandigarh Police against Haryana DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, alleging harassment and caste-based discrimination against her late husband.

In a detailed four-page complaint, Amneet P. Kumar accused the senior police officials of mentally harassing her husband and conspiring against their family. She alleged that a false FIR (No. 0319/2025) was registered against her in Rohtak at the behest of DGP Kapoor shortly before her husband’s death, calling it a “well-planned conspiracy.”

Amneet claimed that the continuous humiliation and caste-based abuse faced by her husband, who belonged to the SC/ST community, pushed him into severe distress, leading him to take his own life.

Senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself at his residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday afternoon. According to police, his wife was on an official tour of Japan with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at the time of the incident. She returned to Chandigarh on Wednesday and subsequently filed the complaint with the police.

The Chandigarh Police have not yet confirmed whether a formal FIR has been registered in connection with her allegations. An investigation into the matter is likely to be initiated soon.
