Bulandshahr: A local court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr has convicted 38 people in connection with the 2018 violence that led to the death of a police officer and two others.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ)-12 Gopal sentenced five of the convicts to life imprisonment for murder, while 33 others were given seven years in jail for rioting and assault.
The violence broke out on December 3, 2018, in the Chingravati area of Siyana following reports of cow carcasses being found. The situation escalated when a mob set fire to the Chingravati police post. Siyana Kotwali in-charge Subodh Singh and a youth named Sumit were killed in the clashes.
The case drew nationwide attention at the time, as the violence was seen as a reflection of rising communal tensions and mob vigilantism over cow slaughter rumours.
