SGPC chief condemns Atishi’s remarks on Guru Tegh Bahadur in Delhi Assembly

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi chief minister Atishi on Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, calling them derogatory and a reflection of the party’s “low mindset”.

Dhami said Atishi’s statement has hurt Sikh sentiments and will never be tolerated by the Sikh community. He said the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, attained martyrdom in Delhi while protecting religious freedom, and using highly objectionable language against the Guru in the Assembly is both unfortunate and condemnable.

The SGPC president said the remarks by the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly not only show a lack of respect towards the Guru but also expose the thinking of the Aam Aadmi Party. He demanded that Atishi’s membership be cancelled immediately.

Dhami also questioned the Aam Aadmi Party leadership, asking whether it would take action against its leader over the issue.
