SGPC suspends secretary Partap Singh over alleged sale of Gurdwara Amb Sahib land

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has suspended its secretary Partap Singh in connection with the alleged sale of land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali.

The suspension orders were issued on Monday evening by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami following the submission of a preliminary report by an internal inquiry committee.

According to officials, the probe committee held a meeting a day earlier and submitted its findings to the SGPC president. Based on the committee’s initial observations, action was taken to suspend the secretary while further investigation continues.

The inquiry report indicated that a letter related to the approval for the sale of the land had surfaced, bearing the signature of the SGPC secretary. The committee is also examining whether the signatures on the document are genuine.

Earlier, the SGPC had also lodged a police complaint alleging fraudulent sale of the land.

Sources said that following the suspension of Partap Singh, the secretary of the Dharam Prachar Committee has been given additional charge of the SGPC secretary’s responsibilities.

The issue of the alleged sale of land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib has triggered a major debate within Sikh circles, with opposition groups also criticising the SGPC over the matter.
