SIT formed to probe IPS officer’s suicide; family, SC/ST representatives demand fair inquiry

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police has constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the FIR registered in connection with the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Earlier in the day, representatives of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, led by D Suresh, Resident Commissioner of Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi, met senior police officers at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters and demanded a fair and time-bound investigation.

According to sources, D Suresh and the brother of the late IPS officer met UT DGP Sagarpreet Singh Hooda and submitted a memorandum seeking the arrest of those named in the FIR.

The delegation, which included over 30 members of the SC/ST communities, urged authorities to ensure that the probe remains impartial and free from political or administrative pressure.

They also requested regular updates on the progress of the investigation. DGP Hooda assured the delegation that the SIT would conduct a transparent and thorough inquiry, adding that no one found guilty would be spared.

Earlier, the family of Y Puran Kumar had raised objections to the FIR, pointing out that it did not clearly mention the names of Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and another senior officer. The family alleged that the omission appeared deliberate and reiterated their demand for justice through a transparent investigation.
