Six killed in house fire in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district

Shimla: At least six people were killed after a fire broke out in a village in the Nauradhar area of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, officials said on Thursday.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sangrah said preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from a traditional cooking stove in a house in Talangana village on Wednesday night.

Talangana is a remote village with no road connectivity. By the time villagers noticed the blaze and reached the spot to help, the fire had already caused extensive damage. So far, six bodies have been recovered.

Officials said two of the deceased were residents of Rajgarh in Sirmaur district, while four belonged to the Nerva area of Shimla district. Among the victims were the house owner’s daughter and son-in-law, who had arrived to celebrate the Boda festival, the largest annual festival of the Hatti community in Sirmaur.

This is the second major tragedy in the Sangrah sub-division within a week. On January 10, 14 people were killed in a bus accident in the same region.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Vinay Kumar, president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, directed authorities to ensure immediate relief and assistance to the affected families.
