Patiala: Incidents of snatching files and tearing of nomination papers during the nomination process for block committee elections in Patiala district have raised serious questions over the security arrangements of the administration and the police. Six such cases have been registered across various police stations, but only two accused have been identified so far, while the rest remain unknown.
The most shocking incident was reported from Ghanaur, where a woman walking on the road was allegedly robbed of her nomination file. The video of the incident went viral on social media, yet the accused has not been identified. Despite images of the suspect surfacing with local leaders in the viral video, police have been unable to trace him.
In a complaint to the police, the returning officer of Shambhu Kalan said an unidentified youth snatched the nomination file from a woman heading to file her papers outside the main gate of the University College of Ghanaur and fled. Even after the video gained widespread attention, the accused remains absconding. A case has been registered against unknown persons and an investigation is underway.
The BJP also released the video of the incident, after which more footage circulating online showed the suspect alongside an MLA. However, police have yet to confirm his identity.
