Leh: Two days after four people were killed and 90 injured in violent protests over statehood and constitutional safeguards in Ladakh, climate activist Sonam Wangchuck was arrested on Friday under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
Officials said Wangchuck has been moved out of Ladakh, while the administration imposed an internet shutdown across Leh district as a precautionary measure.
Leh Apex Body (LAB) member Charing Dorje Lacrouk confirmed the arrest, calling it “unfortunate.”
The development came this afternoon when LAB representatives, who have been pressing for statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule for nearly four years, were about to address a press conference in Leh.
