Visakhapatnam: South Africa registered their third consecutive win over India in the Women’s ODI World Cup, defeating the Indian team by 3 wickets on Thursday. This marked India’s first defeat in the tournament, while South Africa secured their second victory.
Chasing a target of 252, South Africa finished at 252 for 7 in 48.5 overs. The team was in trouble at 81 for 5 when captain Laura Wolvaardt stabilized the innings. She added 61 runs for the sixth wicket with Chloe Tryon off 97 balls before being dismissed for 70 runs from 111 deliveries.
After Wolvaardt’s dismissal, Tryon scored 49 runs and shared a 69-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Nadine de Klerk, who remained unbeaten on 84. In the final stages, de Klerk and Ayabonga Khaka (unbeaten 18 off 18 balls) added an unbeaten 41-run partnership to secure the win.
Earlier, India, batting first after losing the toss, were all out for 251 in 49.5 overs. The team lost six wickets for 102 runs, before wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh played a fighting innings of 94 off 77 balls, but it was not enough to clinch victory.
