Sri Anandpur Sahib: Punjab assembly holds special session outside Chandigarh after 63 years

CHANDIGARH: The special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, convened to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, began on Monday at a waterproof tent set up at Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial Park in Sri Anandpur Sahib. This is the first time in nearly 63 years that the Assembly session is being held outside Chandigarh.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan had officially designated the Bhai Jaita Singh Memorial Park as the temporary Punjab Vidhan Sabha Complex for the occasion.

Nearly 500 chairs have been arranged inside the tent to accommodate members for the commemorative session.

Most MLAs arrived in the tent city of Anandpur Sahib on Sunday. The Punjab government is also considering a proposal to declare Sri Anandpur Sahib and the Amritsar Corridor as holy areas during the special sitting, officials said.
