Strict action underway against drugs in Haryana, says CM Saini

Chandigarh: The issue of drug abuse was raised during Question Hour on the fourth day of the Haryana Assembly’s Budget Session, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini asserting that the state government is taking strict action against narcotics.

Responding to the queries, Saini said the Haryana government has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers and those involved in the illegal trade. He added that properties of individuals found engaged in drug smuggling are being confiscated.

Joint secretariat for northern states

The Chief Minister also informed the House that a joint secretariat has been set up for northern states to coordinate efforts against drug trafficking. Governments of various north Indian states are working together to eliminate the menace, he said.

Saini further stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally monitoring and focusing on anti-drug initiatives at the national level.

Focus on youth and sports

Highlighting preventive measures, the Chief Minister said the state is promoting sports and constructive activities to steer youth away from drugs. Efforts are being made not only to curb the supply of narcotics but also to rehabilitate and support young people vulnerable to substance abuse.
