Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday visited senior party leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is lodged in Nabha jail. The meeting lasted for around half an hour.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Badal launched a sharp attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He alleged that Mann was under pressure from the central government and was not in a position to stand up to it, which, he claimed, was putting Punjab’s interests at risk.
Badal also criticised the recent meeting between the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana on the river water issue. He said such a meeting should not have taken place, asserting that Haryana has no legitimate claim over Punjab’s water and that there was nothing to discuss on the issue.
The Shiromani Akali Dal chief further blamed the Aam Aadmi Party government for the rise in criminal incidents in Punjab. He alleged that the state government was indulging in political vendetta instead of focusing on governance.
Badal said the government should allow the police to work freely and strictly in accordance with the law, adding that maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety should be the state’s top priority.
