Supreme Court adjourns bail pleas of activists in Delhi riots conspiracy case to September 19

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned till September 19 the hearing on bail pleas filed by activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider in a UAPA case linked to the alleged conspiracy behind the February 2020 Delhi riots.

A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria said they received the case files too late to proceed with the hearing.

The activists have challenged the September 2 order of the Delhi High Court, which denied bail to nine persons, including Khalid and Imam, holding that “conspiratorial” violence cannot be permitted in the garb of protests.

Others whose bail pleas were rejected include Mohammad Salim Khan, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Athar Khan, Abdul Khalid Saifi and Shadab Ahmed.
