Supreme Court modifies order on stray dogs, bans feeding on roads

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has modified its earlier directions on stray dogs, allowing sterilised dogs to be released back into the areas from where they were picked up. The decision comes after concerns were raised over overcrowding in shelters and the deteriorating health of caged animals.

In its latest order, the apex court also directed that stray dogs should not be fed on roads.

It said action would be taken under relevant laws against anyone found feeding dogs in public places.

The court further noted that the issue of stray dogs is not confined to a particular state or city and extended the scope of the case to all states and Union Territories across the country.
