Supreme Court petition seeks probe by former judge into Air India flight AI171 crash

New Delhi: Pushkraj Sabharwal, father of late Captain Sumit Sabharwal, along with the Pilots Federation of India, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a probe by a former apex court judge into the June 12 crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, which claimed at least 260 lives.

On September 22, the Supreme Court had observed that certain aspects of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) preliminary report pointed to pilot error.

The court had also issued notices to the Centre and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on a separate plea demanding an independent, impartial and prompt investigation.

The 91-year-old petitioner, Pushkraj Sabharwal, has urged the court to ensure an “impartial, transparent and technically sound” probe into the tragedy.
