New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to alter its September 8 order permitting the Election Commission of India (ECI) to use Aadhaar as the 12th document of identity for inclusion of voters in the revised electoral roll being prepared in Bihar under the Special Comprehensive Correction (SIR) exercise.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi clarified that last week’s direction was only interim in nature. The bench added that the question of Aadhaar’s validity as identity proof remains open and will be decided in the pending matter related to the SIR process.
