New Delhi: The Supreme Court has reprimanded Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s wife, Hasin Jahan, after she challenged a Calcutta High Court order directing Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh monthly as maintenance. The High Court had ordered Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter Ayra and Rs 1.5 lakh for Jahan.
Hasin Jahan filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking to increase the maintenance amount to Rs 10 lakh per month, arguing that Rs 4 lakh was insufficient. The apex court has now issued notices to the West Bengal government and Shami, seeking their response within four weeks.
In July, the Calcutta High Court had directed Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh monthly for the upkeep of Jahan and their daughter. The order followed hearings held earlier in April 2025, with the maintenance amount made applicable retrospectively for the past seven years.
Shami and Hasin Jahan married in 2014, and their daughter Ayra was born in July 2015. In 2018, Jahan accused the cricketer and his family of domestic violence. It later emerged that Jahan had been married before and had two children from her first marriage.
