Suryakumar says winning team is remembered, not the trophy, after India denied Asia Cup prize

Dubai: The Indian team was denied the Asia Cup trophy after Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi refused to hand it over to the winners. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, however, said that the victory mattered more than the silverware.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final on Sunday. Tensions had run high between the two sides throughout the tournament against the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian government’s retaliatory ‘Operation Sindoor’.

“I have never seen a trophy not given to the winning team,” Suryakumar said at the post-match press conference. “But for me, my players and support staff are the real trophy.”
