Chandigarh: Lady Inspector Arshpreet Kaur Grewal, once hailed as a Corona Warrior by Punjab Police, has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court, nine months after being suspended from service.
Arshpreet, who was posted as Station House Officer (SHO) at Kot Ise Khan police station in Moga district, is accused of accepting a Rs 5 lakh bribe from drug smugglers.
The case dates back to her tenure as SHO, during which she allegedly colluded with two police Munshis to detain three drug smugglers and later release them after receiving the bribe.
A departmental inquiry was conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), which confirmed the allegations.
A case was registered against Arshpreet and the two Munshis, who were also suspended.
Arshpreet’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the court. Despite repeated summons, she failed to appear, leading to her being declared a proclaimed offender.
A fresh case under Section 209 of the Indian Penal Code has now been registered against her at Kot Ise Khan police station.
