Kolkata: South Africa set a target of 170 runs for New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, South Africa posted 169 for 8 in their 20 overs.
New Zealand off to a strong start
In reply, New Zealand raced to 169 for 1 in just 12.4 overs during the chase. Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra were at the crease, while Tim Seifert scored 58 runs before being bowled by Kagiso Rabada. Rabada broke the century partnership between the New Zealand openers.
Jansen’s unbeaten fifty lifts South Africa
For South Africa, Marco Jansen scored an unbeaten 55 off 30 balls. He shared a crucial 73-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Tristan Stubbs, who made 29 runs.
At one stage, South Africa were struggling at 77 for 5 before the partnership helped them cross the 150-run mark.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry, Cole McConchie and Rachin Ravindra picked up two wickets each.
