Chandigarh: At least 10 Indian Army personnel were killed and several others injured in a major road accident in Doda during duty on Thursday, officials said.
The accident occurred when an Army vehicle was travelling from Bhadarwah towards Khani Top. In the hilly terrain, the vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into a gorge nearly 200 feet deep.
Among the soldiers who lost their lives was 23-year-old Jobanpreet Singh, a resident of Chanauli village in Nurpur Bedi block of Punjab. Jobanpreet was the only son of former soldier Balveer Singh and had joined the Indian Army in September 2019. He was posted with the 8 Cavalry, Armoured Unit (4 Rashtriya Rifles).
Tragically, Jobanpreet’s wedding was scheduled for March 1, and his family had already completed preparations for the ceremony. News of his martyrdom plunged Chanauli village, Nurpur Bedi and surrounding areas into deep mourning.
Army officials said rescue operations were launched immediately after the incident, and the injured personnel were shifted to nearby medical facilities. Further details regarding the condition of the injured soldiers are awaited.
