Mumbai: A Thai woman gave birth to a baby boy on board an Air India Express flight from Muscat to Mumbai on Thursday.
According to the airline, the flight crew, along with a nurse who was on board, assisted in the delivery after the woman went into labour mid-air.
“As soon as the Thai woman suffered labour pains, the crew swung into action and provided all possible help,” the airline said in a statement. The pilots alerted air traffic control and sought a preferential landing in Mumbai to ensure timely medical assistance.
Medical teams and ambulances were kept ready at Mumbai airport, and both the mother and newborn were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital after the flight landed.
Details about the total number of passengers on board were not immediately available.
