‘Those who take up arms must pay the price’: Amit Shah on Naxalism in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday delivered a 90-minute speech in the Lok Sabha on the issue of making India free from Naxalism, asserting that those who take up arms against the system will have to face consequences.

Shah said that for decades, innocent tribal communities were kept in the dark and misled by Left-wing groups to spread their ideology.

He also targeted the Congress, stating that despite being in power for nearly 60 years after Independence, it failed to ensure basic development in tribal areas.

“Congress did not provide houses, schools or mobile towers to tribal regions, and now they are demanding answers. They should first look within,” Shah said.

Questioning supporters of Naxalism, he asked why such issues were not addressed since the 1970s.

The discussion in Parliament comes a day before the government’s stated deadline of March 31, 2026, to eliminate Naxalism from the country. Shah has repeatedly reiterated the target of making India completely free from Naxalism by that date.
