Amritsar: An atmosphere of anxiety prevailed in schools across Amritsar on Friday after several major institutions received threatening emails warning of a possible bomb blast. Police said they are investigating the matter after being alerted by school authorities.
According to information received, the threat emails were delivered to some prominent schools early this morning. Following the threat, school managements discharged students and sent them home as a precautionary measure. Discussions around the emails also created concern in other schools.
Officials said that several schools in the city and the rural belt received suspicious emails. A gazetted officer has been deployed at each affected school and anti-sabotage checks are underway. The Cyber Police Station is tracking the source of the emails.
Police said that in the past, some students had been found involved in similar mischief. Urging calm, Amritsar Police said on social media that there was no need to panic and that the police are fully alert and on duty.
