Three LPU students killed as speeding car hits pickup truck near Goraya on Amritsar–Delhi highway

Jalandhar: Three students of Lovely Professional University were killed on the spot after their speeding car crossed the divider and rammed into an oncoming pickup truck near Goraya in Jalandhar district early Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred on the Amritsar–Delhi national highway when the car, travelling from Jalandhar towards Ludhiana, reportedly lost control due to overspeeding, broke through the central divider and collided head-on with a Tata-407 pickup coming from the opposite lane.

Passersby alerted the police, following which a Goraya police team rushed to the spot and pulled the occupants out of the mangled vehicle. All three were declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

The deceased were identified as Sahil Mohammad (23), son of Kashmir Mohammad; Daljit Bhatti (20), son of Avtar Chand; and Avtar Mehmi (17), son of Des Raj Mehmi — all residents of Muthadda Kalan village under the Phillaur police station limits in Jalandhar district. Police said all three were students at LPU.

The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the Toyota car completely wrecked. The pickup truck was also badly damaged, and its driver sustained serious injuries, including a leg fracture. He has been admitted to hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
