TMC accuses Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu of assaulting party MP in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla alleging that Murshidabad MP Abu Tahir Khan was pushed by Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu while a bill to remove jailed ministers was being introduced on Wednesday.

According to sources, in a letter dated August 21, TMC deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Satabdi Roy and MP Mahua Moitra said that Khan was pushed “without any reason” while standing near the Well of the House.

The MPs said they were exercising their right to protest during the introduction of bills but were “silenced and rendered helpless.” They added that as elected representatives, it was their duty to raise the voice of the people. The letter also accused the government of bypassing all parliamentary rules while introducing the Constitution (120th Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The TMC leaders alleged that Khan, who had been in hospital for months, was standing at the edge of the Well when Bittu “forcibly and violently” shoved him. “It was shocking to see Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu assault a fellow MP in such a manner. This was an unprovoked attack on a colleague who is still recovering from a serious illness,” the letter read.

They further claimed that Union minister for parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju was standing behind Bittu and “instigating his colleagues to attack opposition MPs who were protesting.”
