Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again claimed that he played a key role in preventing a war between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan, asserting that his interventions helped save millions of lives.
Trump said he had stopped “eight wars” and should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but alleged that the decision was controlled by Norway. He added that saving lives mattered more to him than receiving the prestigious honour.
“I don’t care about the Nobel Prize… a very smart woman felt I deserved it and truly wanted me to get it, and I appreciate that,” Trump said. “If anyone thinks Norway does not control the Nobel Prize, that’s not correct. They have a board, but Norway decides who gets it, and I don’t care what Norway says.”
Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a college football game in Miami.
Notably, last week Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented Trump with what she described as her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize during a meeting at the White House.
Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for de-escalating international conflicts during his presidency, including tensions between India and Pakistan, though his assertions have been disputed in the past.
