Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has once again targeted India over trade issues, announcing a 25% tariff on Indian goods for the second time in 24 hours. The proposed tariff is set to take effect from August 1.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “India is a friend of the US, but over the years we have done less trade with them because of the high tariffs.” He alleged that several of India’s trade policies have made it difficult for American companies to operate in the country.

Trump also criticised India’s continued defense and energy ties with Russia, stating that “India still buys most of its weapons from Russia” and imports significant amounts of oil and gas along with China. He said such actions undermine global efforts to pressure Russia into ending its military operations in Ukraine.

Citing these concerns, Trump said the US will not only impose tariffs but also consider additional penalties on India. The announcement signals growing tensions between the two nations, despite diplomatic efforts to maintain friendly relations.
