Washington: US President Donald Trump has said he will suspend planned military strikes on Iran for two weeks, citing ongoing diplomatic efforts and requests from Pakistani leadership.
In a post, Trump said the decision followed conversations with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged restraint. He added that the pause is conditional on Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump described the move as a “double-sided ceasefire,” claiming that US military objectives had already been achieved and that progress was being made toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran and broader stability in the Middle East.
He also revealed that the US had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he said could serve as a workable basis for negotiations.
There has been no immediate response from Iran on the conditions outlined by the US President.
