Trump celebrates Diwali at White House, calls PM Modi a ‘great friend’

Washington: US President Donald Trump attended Diwali celebrations at the White House on Tuesday and extended warm greetings to the people of India and the Indian-American community.

During the event, Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a “great man” and a “great friend.” He lauded the growing partnership between the United States and India, highlighting cooperation in trade and regional peace.

“I wish the people of India the very best of luck,” Trump said, adding that he had spoken with PM Modi earlier in the day. “We had a very good conversation. We talked about trade… They are very interested in it,” he said.

Trump also mentioned the importance of peace in South Asia, saying, “We talked some time ago about not having a war with Pakistan. We don’t have a war with Pakistan and India. This is a very good thing.”
