Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday paid tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, calling him a “great American hero” and a “martyr for freedom.” Trump and other prominent conservative leaders gathered at a stadium packed with over 63,000 people for a condolence meeting in Kirk’s memory.
Trump credited the 31-year-old activist with playing a decisive role in his 2024 election victory. “He died for the freedom of the United States,” Trump said, adding, “none of us will ever forget Charlie. Nor will history forget him now.”
Among those present were Vice President J.D. Vance, senior administration officials, Elon Musk — the Tesla owner and former Trump administration minister — and young conservatives who admired Kirk’s sharp leadership.
Speakers at the event recalled Kirk’s belief that young conservatives should marry, raise families, and strengthen their values to advance their movement. They urged supporters to carry forward his mission of shifting American politics further to the right.
