Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that he used tax threats as a tool to resolve several international conflicts, including tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I’ve solved some of the wars on the basis of taxes alone. For example, between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I’m going to impose big tariffs on both of you, like 100 percent, 150 percent, and 200 percent.”
He added that his threat of heavy taxes quickly brought the situation under control. “I said I was taxing. I solved that in 24 hours. If I didn’t have taxes, you could never have solved that war,” Trump said.
Trump reiterated these claims during an interview with Fox News on October 9, asserting that his intervention had helped maintain peace between the two nuclear-armed countries.
