WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump warned Hamas that if the violence in Gaza does not stop, “we will be forced to go there and end it.” The warning came as Trump downplayed the ongoing conflict following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas last week, which was aimed at facilitating the release of hostages.
However, the US president clarified that American troops would not be deployed to Gaza. “We’re not going to do that,” Trump told reporters. “We have people around us who will do this work very easily under our supervision,” he added, without naming the countries he was referring to.
Trump also said that Hamas had “eliminated some very bad gangs” and killed many of their members. “To be honest, it didn’t make much difference to me,” he said, without detailing how he intended to carry out his threat.
The White House has not issued any official comment on Trump’s remarks. He further said that Hamas fighters must lay down their arms. “Hamas fighters have to lay down their arms, or we will arm them and it will happen quickly and possibly violently,” Trump said.
