Two Punjabi youths shot dead in Canada’s Edmonton

Edmonton: Two Punjabi youths were shot dead in Edmonton, Canada, in the early hours of Sunday. Both victims hailed from Mansa district in Punjab and had moved to Canada about two-and-a-half years ago on study visas.

The deceased were identified as Gurdeep Singh (27), a resident of Thare village and his friend Ranveer Singh (20) from Saidwal (Boha). Police said the shooting took place around 1.30 am near the intersection of 32nd Avenue and 26th Street, where the two were sitting in a car.

Police reached the spot and found Gurdeep Singh had died on the spot due to gunshot injuries. Ranveer Singh was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officials said CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scanned to identify the assailants. Police are also examining the background and activities of the deceased as part of the investigation.
