FARIDKOT: Two women were arrested within hours after holy pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were torn during a clash inside a gurdwara in Jalaleyana village.
The accused have been identified as Kuldeep Kaur, wife of Jagraj Singh, and Veeran Kaur, wife of Harpal Singh, both residents of the village, Kotkapura DSP Sanjeev Kumar said.
According to the police, the two women were embroiled in a personal dispute and entered the gurdwara while arguing. During the altercation, one of them allegedly touched the palanquin in anger, causing the Rumala Sahib and the Khalsa spear placed above it to fall to the floor. In the incident, five sacred angs (pages) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were desecrated.
Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information and initiated action. Further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and to assess the damage caused in the gurdwara.
