Under the leadership of Sant Seechewal, the work of constructing spurs (protection structures) at Dhussi Bundh continues by the Sangat and Drainage Department

Lohian Khas/Jalandhar (September 14): In order to protect the villages of the Lohian region from the erosion threatening the Dhussi Bundh on the Sutlej River, the Sangat, along with the Drainage Department under the leadership of Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, is carrying out the service of constructing spurs on a war footing.

By evening, near village Mandala Chhanna, the work of constructing spurs by the Sangat and the Drainage Department was progressing at a fast pace.

However, today the water flow in the Sutlej River below the Gidderpindi bridge was only 23,200 cusecs. In this regard, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal stated that before the onset of the monsoon, the Drainage Department had already been instructed to strengthen the existing spurs and to construct new ones at some places.

He explained that most embankments do not break because of water overflowing from rivers; rather, when the water level begins to recede, the river starts eroding the base of the Dhussi Bundh, and this backward flow of the river becomes more dangerous.

Sant Seechewal further said that with the support of the villagers and Sangat, the work of constructing spurs would continue day and night.
In addition, officials of the district administration are continuously visiting the Sutlej Bundh to keep a close watch.
