Washington: The US Embassy on Wednesday issued a strong warning to Indian students, saying violations of American laws could lead to “serious consequences.”
In a post on social media platform X, the embassy said that staying in the United States is a privilege, not a right. It advised students to avoid any activity that could result in arrest, warning that breaking the law may lead to visa cancellation and deportation.
The embassy also said that students who violate rules could become ineligible for US visas in the future. It added that visa screening does not end once a visa is issued, as authorities have the power to revoke a visa at any time if violations are found.
Earlier, the embassy had instructed applicants under F, M and J visa categories to keep their social media accounts set to ‘public’ to allow proper verification of their identity and eligibility during the screening process.
