Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. The 89-year-old breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai on Monday afternoon.
His last rites were performed at the Vile Parle crematorium, where several film industry personalities, including Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, arrived to pay their final respects. A large number of fans also gathered outside the crematorium.
Prime Minister PM Modi expressed deep grief over the actor’s demise in a post on X. “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people,” PM Modi said.
He added that Dharmendra was admired not only for his work but also for his simplicity, humility and warmth. “In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti,” PM Modi wrote.
