Vidhan Sabha Session: Punjab to give farmers Rs 7,200 per acre for desilting and Rs 18,800 per acre for crop loss: CM

Chandigarh: On the final day of the special Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced compensation for farmers — Rs 7,200 per acre for desilting and Rs 18,800 per acre for crop loss due to floods. The compensation will be disbursed from October 15, he said.

Mann accused the Centre of attempting to make Punjab a Union Territory and described the Punjab BJP’s ‘People’s Vidhan Sabha’ as a “fake assembly.” In his 43-minute address, the CM said his government would rise above politics to rebuild Punjab.

The House also unanimously passed a resolution slamming the Centre for providing a “meagre” flood relief package and demanded a special financial assistance of Rs 20,000 crore. BJP MLAs were absent during the passage of the resolution.
