Vigilance files 40,000 pages charge sheet against SAD leader Bikram Majithia in disproportionate assets case

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau on Friday filed a charge sheet against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with a disproportionate assets case in Punjab.

Officials said the charge sheet, running into more than 40,000 pages, was brought to court in four trunks. It names over 200 witnesses and includes details of more than 400 bank accounts examined during the investigation.

Sources said Vigilance has alleged illegal and disproportionate assets worth Rs 700 crore in the document. The findings are based on searches conducted at 15 locations across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Statements of several Akali Dal and BJP leaders have also been recorded.

Majithia was arrested from Amritsar on June 25 and is currently lodged in New Nabha jail. The Akali Dal said it would review the challan once it is presented in court.

Officials claimed that the Vigilance Bureau has filed the charge sheet within the stipulated time.
