Gurdaspur: A married woman from Gurdaspur allegedly cheated her husband and in-laws after moving to the UK on a study visa, despite promises made before marriage to call her husband on a spouse visa after reaching there. The police have registered a case against three people in connection with the matter.
According to the complaint, the man was married to Alisha on January 11, 2023, after her family assured that she would go to the UK on a study visa and later call her husband on a spouse visa. Both families agreed to share the expenses, and the wedding took place happily.
The woman’s travel to the UK was arranged at a cost of around Rs 14-15 lakh. However, after reaching there, Alisha allegedly changed her mind and refused to call her husband. It is alleged that she consulted her father, Inderjit Singh Bhagat, and mother, Asha Rani, and later denied the promise made before the wedding.
The youth and his family claimed they were cheated after spending lakhs on the promise of family reunification abroad. The police have registered a case against Alisha, her father, and her mother under relevant sections and have begun an investigation.
Police said that similar cases have been reported in the region before, and in one instance, a young man had taken his own life under similar circumstances.
