Work in my constituency has come to a standstill due to detention, Amritpal Singh tells HC

New Delhi: MP Amritpal Singh, who is detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail, on Tuesday told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that work in his parliamentary constituency has come to a standstill due to his continued detention.

Appearing before a bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagoo and Justice Sanjiv Bery through video conferencing, the Khadoor Sahib MP chose to address the court himself as lawyers were abstaining from work.

Amritpal said that due to his detention, major public issues such as floods, drug menace and alleged fake encounters could not be raised in Parliament. He added that the NSA detention has completely halted the functioning of his constituency.

The MP said he had sought conditional bail to raise these issues but has not received any relief so far. He maintained that the matter is not limited to him alone but concerns the voters of his constituency, whose parliamentary voice needs to be heard.
