LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday flagged off vehicles carrying wheat seeds from his official residence to support farmers in flood-hit areas of Punjab.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Adityanath said that Diwali is being celebrated with enthusiasm and peace across the country, adding that the true joy of a festival lies in helping those in distress. “With the same spirit, the UP government is standing with the farmers of Punjab in this difficult time,” he said.
He assured that the farmers of Punjab would not face the disaster alone, adding that the “double engine government” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — referring to the central and state governments — stands firmly with every citizen affected by calamity. “Be it in the form of relief material, financial aid or rehabilitation efforts, together we will make the farmers powerful, self-reliant and prosperous,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that 1,000 quintals of wheat seed being dispatched is of the Bibi 327 variety, also known as Karan Shivani. The variety is disease-resistant, bio-fortified, and nutrient-rich, maturing in about 155 days with a yield potential of nearly 80 quintals per hectare, he added.
