Yamunanagar: A young couple died by suicide after jumping into a canal in Yamunanagar, Haryana. The two, who had known each other since their college days, reportedly wanted to get married but were unable to do so due to family opposition.
Police said the couple left home on the pretext of going to work before tying their hands with a chunni and parna and jumping into the Begumpur Hydel Link Canal. Their bodies were recovered from the canal on Saturday, November 15.
The deceased have been identified as Mehak (23) from Dhakwala village and Shubham (23) from Arjun Majra.
Mehak worked as a teacher at a computer centre in Yamunanagar while Shubham was employed as a labourer with a railway contractor. Both were the only children of their parents.
