Amritsar: A young man was killed and his friend injured during a violent quarrel at a party in Amritsar’s Majitha area on Sunday night, police said.
The incident took place in Galowali Colony village, where the atmosphere had remained peaceful following the zilla parishad and block committee elections. According to initial information, a party was underway at a house in the village when a dispute broke out over a DJ being taken through the street.
The deceased has been identified as Sarabjit Singh alias Sabi, aged around 30, who was reportedly living at his maternal home. Police said Sarabjit objected to the DJ passing through the area, following which an argument erupted between him and a group of people.
The altercation soon turned violent, during which Sarabjit was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons, leading to his death. One of his friends also sustained injuries in the incident.
After receiving information, police teams reached the spot and recorded statements of those present. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said a case is being registered and raids are underway to nab the accused. Officials assured that the suspects would be taken into custody soon and further investigation is in progress.
