Chandigarh: A youth with a criminal background was shot dead in the parking area near the judicial court complex on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Golu Pandit, is reported to be the son of a temple priest.
According to police sources, Golu had arrived with his friends to attend a court hearing in a brand new Scorpio vehicle that did not have a registration number. As he stepped out, unidentified assailants, opened fire at him.
The attackers fled before bystanders could grasp what had happened. Police later recovered at least three empty shells from the spot.
Golu Pandit was rushed to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Senior police officials reached the hospital soon after, and the body has been kept in the mortuary.
Initial investigation suggests the shooting may be linked to an ongoing gang rivalry. Sources said Golu Pandit had multiple criminal cases registered against him at the local police station. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
