Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House on Monday for talks with US President Donald Trump. Trump welcomed Zelensky, and the two leaders answered questions on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Trump said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone after meetings with Zelensky and European leaders. He added that he had earlier thought ending the war would be easy but acknowledged it is proving very difficult. Trump reiterated that the conflict could stop immediately if Zelensky desires.
The US President also assured that, despite Ukraine not being under NATO protection, the country would receive strong security support. Zelensky, meanwhile, said he is not prepared to exchange territory with Russia under any circumstances but is open to dialogue with Putin.
Trump also met with European leaders, including those from France, Britain, Germany, Finland, and Italy, along with heads of NATO and the European Union.
