Australian women cricketers harassed in Indore, accused arrested

New Delhi: Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women’s World Cup were allegedly chased in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, and one of them was molested by a man on a motorcycle, police said. The incident took place on Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area.

Sub-inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said the two players were leaving their hotel and heading towards a café when a man began following them on a motorcycle. The accused allegedly touched one of the cricketers inappropriately before fleeing the spot.

The players immediately informed their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local liaison officers and arranged a vehicle for their safety.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra later met the two cricketers and recorded their statements. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at the MIG police station.

A passerby had noted the motorcycle’s number, which helped the police trace and arrest the accused, identified as Aqeel Khan. Police said Khan has a criminal record and further investigation is underway.
